BKPT Minor League Program FAQs

Players can join the Brooklyn Pickleball Team minor league roster one of two ways: 

Number One Way: 

1. Complete your membership registration via this form including reading and agreeing to the Release and Waiver of Liability agreement carefully;
2. Submit your annual fee here; 
3. Once you click that link to the Brooklyn Pickleball Team Shopify site, add the membership to your cart and checkout; you’ll be provided options for lump sum payment or installment plan at checkout; 
   1. The annual fee includes all player benefits listed below and here;
4. Enter your payment information and complete the process to become an official member of the Brooklyn Pickleball Team Minor League Roster;
5. Once registered and payment is complete, you will gain full access to the team and be able to select from a list of available tournaments throughout the year.

Number Two Way: 

1. Register for a tryout October 5-8 via this page 
2. If you are one of the top 4 players in your DUPR division selected via tryout, your annual roster membership fee will be waived; if you are not selected as one of the top 4 players we encourage you to register to be a part of the roster to continue to develop and compete for the team in local tournaments, gain all the membership benefits listed below and have your chance at MiLP Nationals in December 2025 and the inaugural 2026 MLP New York Minor League Showcase in Summer 2026;
3. If you are not selected as one of the top 4 players via tryout, your tryout fee will be applied towards your annual minor league roster membership. 

Much like college or club sports programs, the Brooklyn Pickleball Team Minor League program operates on a membership-based model where everyone pays an annual membership fee to join, but top-performing players can earn scholarships that waive their annual dues.

Open to All Skill Levels (DUPR 12–18) - we welcome players of all ages and skill levels, with the goal of building large, competitive rosters across all DUPR divisions (12–18) that embrace the team culture and community we aspire for the roster to become. Our flexible structure allows for players to develop up and down the ranks and teams to be formed ahead of each tournament based on current skill level and player availability. For example, if we have enough players at the DUPR 12 level we could assemble a DUPR 12 A Team, DUPR 12 B Team, etc. to compete in tournaments. This ensures fair play and gives everyone an opportunity to compete at the optimal level.

Tryouts & Scholarships - to kick off the program, we will host open tryouts, which is an exciting way for us to get to know the players in our community, players to showcase their skills, get evaluated by our coaching staff, and learn about the Brooklyn Pickleball Team Minor League program.

From these tryouts, we will select the top 4 players in each DUPR division to receive a full scholarship (aka their annual membership fee will be waived). These scholarship athletes will be the front runners for our top roster to represent Brooklyn Pickleball Team at Minor League Pickleball National Championship in Dallas, Dec 3–7, but all rostered players will have the opportunity to participate in the National event and represent BKPT. 

While scholarships are limited to top performing players, everyone has a path to participate, grow, and compete by joining the Brooklyn Pickleball Team Minor League Roster program through membership. 

Whether you make the roster as one of the top four players per division by way of tryout or join the roster by signing up for the Minor League Roster membership, every player will receive the following benefits of being part of a Major League Pickleball team based program: 

• Coaching from Head Coach Kyle McKenzie & access to the BKPT front office team
• Receive official Brooklyn Pickleball Team items:

• Organized practice sessions to develop your skills, build team culture and community

• Become an Official Team Ambassador and represent BKPT by helping host events to bring further credibility to the events and player profiles

Coaching from Head Coach Kyle McKenzie: players can expect individual and group virtual sessions with Coach Kyle, along with in-person sessions as the schedule allows. Kyle has been highly effective in our virtual coaching program, so we’re excited to offer this hybrid model, which we believe can bring significant value.

Access to the BKPT front office team: we’re committed to fostering a culture of togetherness by offering a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to build a brand-new professional sports team from the ground up. Drawing from our past experience launching a pro soccer club, we found great value in hosting monthly gatherings with supporters. These sessions provided insight into what was happening both on and off the field, while also serving as an open forum for feedback and relationship-building. Over time, this created a strong sense of shared purpose where everyone felt like they were part of something bigger than themselves. 

It’s not every day we get to build a pro team and league from scratch, and we’re eager to share that journey with our community, cultivating a true “all in this together” spirit.

Organized practice sessions: ahead of each tournament (every 2–4 weeks), we’ll be holding organized practice sessions for our DUPR 12–18 rosters. These sessions are designed to help develop individual and team skills, build a strong team culture and community, and evaluate potential groupings to form the most competitive teams for each tournament.

With a deep roster of players across all skill levels, these practices are a valuable opportunity for everyone to come together, train, and prepare. They’ll also give us the best chance to assemble multiple strong teams, maximizing our potential to reach the medal stand across all levels!

Our Brooklyn Pickleball Team Minor League program Membership Goals are: 

1. To build a large, inclusive, and competitive roster across all levels and ages where we potentially have a college football sized (or greater) roster and can develop players throughout the year to become the best version of themselves and represent Brooklyn Pickleball Team proudly. 
2. We’d love nothing more than for this program to become its own vibrant community within the already existing larger pickleball community. 
3. To pave the way for this program to become an integral part of the larger Major League Pickleball and Minor League program vision where our players will have the opportunity to compete against other MLP minor league teams at the inaugural Minor League Pickleball Showcase event at the Major League Pickleball (MLP) New York event in Summer of 2026.

Just like all great programs, we want the best for all of our players and expect to see DUPR levels change throughout the year. As your skills develop, we will assess in real time and place you on the most competitive team possible when it comes time to train and compete at the tournaments we will be participating in. 

Brooklyn Pickleball Team will provide a list of potential tournaments for our rostered players to compete in throughout the year. We will ask that each player shares their respective interest and availability so we can then assemble the best team(s) possible to compete and represent Brooklyn Pickleball Team. 

We would love to have as many players and teams as possible competing throughout the year at MiLP tournaments, other local tournaments, and eventually the inaugural Minor League Pickleball Showcase event at the Major League Pickleball (MLP) New York event in Summer of 2026 and Minor League Pickleball National Championship.

Brooklyn Pickleball Team is Brooklyn's Major League Pickleball team. Just like any other professional sport, we are made up of a roster of professional athletes and a front office that cares about Brooklyn and growing the game alongside our community.

Currently the MLP schedule takes place in 14 different cities around the country. While Brooklyn will play in 6-8 of those cities, BKPT aims to create and implement ongoing local programming for our community. Look out for more information on our social channels and at our future local facility partner locations. 

BKPT will be hosting a hometown MLP event June 25-28 at SPORTIME on Randall's Island. Should the team qualify for the end-of-season Championship we'll see you in Central Park at Wollman Rink August 28-30! 

The 2026 MLP schedule will feature 13 total events that will run Thursday-Sunday in MLP Team cities showcasing nine regular season events, a Mid-Season Tournament, and three rounds of the 2026 MLP Playoffs. 

All MLP teams will appear in five of nine regular season events where every team will play a total of 23 regular season matches over their five events. Brooklyn Pickleball Team will be participating in the following events:  St Louis, MO (June 4-7) | St. Petersburg, FL (June 18-21) |  New York, NY (June 25-28) | Grand Rapids, MI, Mid-Season Tournament (July 8-12) |  Chicago, IL (July 23-26) |  Walt Disney World, FL (July 30-Aug 2) 

Regular Season Standings

• Each event will feature 11 total teams, split into one group of five (5) and one group of six (6) teams, playing round robin Thursday to Saturday with the top four teams in each group advancing to Sunday. 
• Group standings will be determined by standings points earned during group play, with each match worth a total of three (3) points (regulation win = 3; DreamBreaker win = 2; DreamBreaker loss = 1; regulation loss = 0)
• The same seeded team in each group will play each other on Sunday (i.e.: Group A #1 vs. Group B #1, etc.), with event standings points on the line, based on Sunday match results
• In a nod to F1, event standings points for each event will be 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-1-1, based on final results (the winner of the #1 vs. #1 match will receive 25 event standings points with the loser earning 18 points, etc.)

The 2026 season will conclude with the MLP Playoffs that will take place over three separate weekends in three locations (Dallas, San Diego, New York City). The top twelve teams will qualify for the season-ending MLP Playoffs. If there is a tie between two or more teams with the same number of points, the tiebreaker will be net games from regular season matches.

Alongside professional team play, select 2026 MLP events will also feature Minor League Pickleball (MiLP) and Jr. MLP competitions—bringing high-energy amateur team play to the same stage as the pros.
